About Me:
|
(Everybody click this image and then click the button on top of the AnimalRescueSite page. Each day you click, you give the value of .6 bowls of food to rescued animals.) Hello! I'm the Vice President and co-founder of Petsmopolitan. If you just signed up, you probably see myself and KC on your friends list. We're like Tom from Myspace... EVERYWHERE! We're here to help you feel welcome, figure things out as you look around the site, and address any questions, concerns, comments or suggestions you may have. Please feel free to send me a message or post a comment with your thoughts. If you DON'T want me as your friend any longer, you can remove me by clicking right under my picture, but why would you do that?!? ;) Stalk me via... I'm "guilty" of selective caring. I'm passionate about a lot of things in life. I care about some things too much, and other things I don't care about enough (if at all). It's hard to force yourself to care or stop caring about something in life. Oh well... c'est la vie. I like to volunteer my time (on the rare occasions I have it) or donate money (on the rare occasions I have that too!) when I get the chance... I hope to have a lot more of the latter someday. :D Some issues I care about: I care deeply about the environment and the world around me. I've been a member of the Sierra Club since I was in middle school and a member of The Nature Conservancy since I started college. I like the work they do to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself, especially ecologically important lands and waters. I'm also passionate about individual rights and liberties we have in this country by the Constitution of the United States, so I've been a member of the ACLU since 2003. While they are controversial to some people, even the most unpopular forms of speech and expression deserve protection. Nobody agrees on everything, but I'd fight for the right for somebody to say something I disagree with just as much as I would fight for my right to say what I believe (or don't believe). On that note, I'm also a registered Libertarian, because I value the platform of small government, lower taxes, and more freedom. "Live and let live" really is a good philosophy to go by. :) Lastly, since this is PETSMOPOLITAN, obviously I care a lot about animals and animal rights. I keep trying to become vegan, but it's easier said than done when you can't cook more than three things and live right by multiple fast food restaurants that have something called The Dollar Menu. I haven't given up though, so I know I will do it someday. I've been a member of the ASPCA and PETA since I started college. I support the work that these organizations do on behalf of animals around the world. While some of PETA's tactics are questionable and I've scratched my head in wonderment multiple times, I can't argue with their successes. There are a lot of issues that I wouldn't have known about if not for PETA increasing awareness of it. I just can't "turn myself off" to a lot of the issues out there when it comes to pets and animals - even if it's horrible to know about. I think that's the difference between making a difference and somebody going "oh that's too bad", moving on, and forgetting about it. Some people can, but I can't. Ignorance is not bliss to me. Now onto fun random thoughts or useless facts about me:I'm the only person in the history of the Grand Rapids (MN) Middle School to win the spelling bee. Alas, they only had it for one year. :( S-T-E-R-N-O-C-L-E-I-D-O-M-A-S-T-O-I-D-E-U-S for the win! If you know what the Myers-Briggs personality inventory is, I am an INFP. If you don't, never mind! My sleep habits have been described as "unhealthy", to say the least. Sometimes I will stay up for two (or more) days at a time until the point of exhaustion, collapse, and sleep in for 14 hours. Other times, I don't "sleep" for weeks, but instead take a couple of brief naps throughout each day. I'm too far gone to improve them now! :) The things I am most thankful for about myself are my imagination and creativity. Without them, I can't imagine how life would be or where I'd be now... and I don't how useful I would be either. I could live the rest of my life without gaining another acquaintance, of which I have hundreds, if not thousands from over the years. It's true friends that are priceless and hard to find. I could count those on one hand, and I'd have multiple fingers left over. I love Minneapolis (and the rest of Minnesota) very much. The only place I would ever move if I decide to do someday would be Colorado. It's the perfect state to me with everything to do and similar to Minnesota (outside of the bitter cold winters). I need the four distinct seasons, but I don't need the -30 wind chills or the 95 and humid hot summer days.

Quotes:
|
"It's easy to say 'Someone should do something about...' But it's far more difficult to accept that challenge and realize you are that 'someone.' And, if you will not do it, why should someone else do it? How can we expect them to?" (Bob Barr)"Man must become the perfection he believes in and not wait for someone to give it to him, nor allow anyone to tempt him to believe he cannot achieve it." (Unknown)"The zoo opens up a whole new world for the animals. In the wild, they would never experience boredom, obesity, loss of purpose - you know, the American Dream!" (Homer Simpson) "I think that people who don't like animals tend to be selfish, but I'm biased." (Jessica Alba) "I've always felt that animals are the purest spirits in the world. They don't fake or hide their feelings, and they are the most loyal creatures on Earth. And somehow we humans think we're smarter - what a joke." (Pink) "Imagine living in a cage in the dark, unable to move, day after day. The suffering of today's American farm animals is almost beyond belief. They don't have a choice, but you do, and their lives depend on it." (Casey Affleck) "People get offended by animal rights campaigns. It's ludicrous. It's not as bad as mass animal death in a factory." (Richard Gere) "The road to misery and the road to joy are the same road. Your destination will be determined by the song in your heart." (Paul Frantzich) "Only on the wings of music can you travel this world and worlds beyond (and all for less than the cost of a tiny suitcase)." (Jeff Victor, composer) "And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?" (Tom Hanks in "Cast Away")"That was a great time, the summer of '71 - I can't remember it, but I'll never forget it!" (Lemmy from Motörhead) "The trouble with resisting temptation is you may not get another chance." (Laurence Peter) "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions." (Albert Einstein)"The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget." (Thomas Szasz) "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." (Oscar Wilde) "None of us will ever accomplish anything excellent or commanding except when he listens to this whisper which is heard by him alone." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) "When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained." (Mark Twain) "Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will - his personal responsibility." (Albert Schweitzer)"Many of us spend half our time wishing for things we could have if we didn't spend half our time wishing." (Unknown) "America believes in education: the average professor earns more money in a year than a professional athlete earns in a whole week." (Evan Esar) "Stop it, and stay stopped it!" (Jiminy Glick)

Memories:
|
*The hundreds and hundreds of concerts I've been to over the years, either with a bunch of friends or just myself. I have tons of memories for every arena or club show I've seen. I'm probably the happiest when I am in front of the stage (or backstage) seeing one of my favorite bands.
*Jetskiing on Lake Minnetonka outside of the Twin Cities. Sitting in the middle of the lake just talking, telling stories, having some food or drinks, reminiscing, and thinking about the future.
*I love thinking back to the bonfires I had every night in my backyard in high school and my early college years. Sometimes there would be five people there, and sometimes there would be 50 people there. Such good times... a lot of my happiest memories have bonfires involved.
*Playing baseball on the field behind my house when I was growing up long into the night with however many neighborhood kids we could get. We'd have Home Run derbies, endless batting/fielding practice, or whatever we could think of.
*Tae Kwon Do tournaments when I was in middle and high school, especially the first time I won first place in three competitions at one tournament! Those were some great road trips.
*The first time I ever had OK Soda. You wouldn't understand.
